Beard update... after this mornings 13 miles with 810' of vertical gain (yes, I'm actually keeping track of that now). This was one of my flatter routes today. During the week, the treadmill is usually anywhere between 5 and 11%. Without looking at my logs, I think I have around 6000 feet of vertical gain this week. This was a rest week so the miles were down, around 42 total.

Great article on Bill Rodgers from 1996..

After meeting and talking to him last month, this describes him to a tee!!

Woke up this morning to some of the white stuff coming down. And they weren't the regular size flakes, these were flakes on steroids, big monster flakes. It lasted about 20 minutes and was done for the day.

Today was the annual Fanny Freezer 5k, a race in which normally starts off the racing season for me, however this year I'm not really putting an emphasis on this or any other race under 13.1... If I happen to run a good race then good, if I don't, so what! The bigger focus for me this year is to try and put in a solid year of injury free running. I'll throw in some 5 and 10k's along maybe with a couple of 13.1's. I've already made the commitment and signed up for the 50k H.U.F.F. in December. Oh yeah, and there's this little race in Colorado I'm still banging my head over...

This week has been relatively calm as compared to the last two.. I got 65 after today and will most likely just add another small run tomorrow. Next week will be an easy week, maybe 40, then back up to ~80 for another 3 week build.

I could tell after today's 5k (19:30) that I don't have any thing remotely close to having any speed, but I'm OK with that right now. I really didn't push the pace at all today, I kept the HR around 163-165 (which is 7-12 beats below where I would normally race a 5k).

The last couple of weeks have been tremendous. After meeting and talking to one of my boyhood idols, I felt a strong desire to go out and run... a lot! So over the last couple of weeks I've been putting in some pretty good mileage, albeit slow, low HR stuff. Since the 1st of the month, I've logged 126 miles, which averages out to ~11.5/day. If I were to stay on this pace it would net me a pretty good month, however the plan is to ramp the mileage down the last week of the month to give the body and legs a rest. I'm still throwing around the idea of running a marathon on 5/2.. If not on 5/2, then on 6/2. There's only about 4-1/2 weeks left to decide whether or not to run PPM or not. I've got a couple of qualifiers, 1, 2, under my belt, but even then, it's going to be a real task just to get registered before it sells out!

Looking forward to Tim's race this weekend.

Definitiely considering the HUFF this year.
